Old Crow Medicine Show: Black-Haired Quebecoise

I was a worn out yank with an empty tank, when I seen that sign through the snow,
It was either the bar or L’eglise Saint-Ars so I figured I had to go,
So I walked on in and I seen her grin and I said Bon soir ma belle, GOOD EVENING MY BEAUTY
I bought her a drink and I started to think that she might have a story to tell

Oh you black haired Québécoise let me be your beau francois, HANDSOME FRANCIS
Ce soir, Tonight, Alright, TONIGHT
Oh what you doin way up there, way across la frontier, THE BORDER
Ce soir, Tonight, Alright.

She said “Je m’appelle Bediduelle, je suis de trois rivière MY NAME IS BEDUDUELLE. I’M FROM TROIS RIVIERE
Et tu, et tu, mon petit chou chou,” Je connais pas mon Cher. AND YOU, AND YOU, MY LITTLE CABBAGE/SWEETIE, I DON’T KNOW MY DEAR
My truck broke down, eight miles from town and my French it ain’t that good,
But I like your smile and it’s worth all the miles that I spent haulin’ that wood.

Oh you black haired Québécoise let me be your beau francois,
Ce soir, Tonight, Alright,
Oh what you doin way up there, way across la frontiere,
Ce soir, Tonight, Alright.
Well my heart was on my sleeve, I was about ready to leave,
when a stranger he walked through the door,
He said “quest que tu fait avec ma fille” and my heart was lying on the floor, WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH MY DAUGHTER
Well my wounds were licked and my beer was kicked, it was time to get over this this
I walked outside to bum me a ride, she came up and gave me a kiss

Well I walked for miles and that cold was wild but that kiss sure warmed my heart
It was just my luck to get to my truck and hear that old engine start
I got up the road, to drop off my load, feelin easy and free
Mix Québécoise with my southern drawl, oh well man it’s c’est la vie THAT’S LIFE

Oh you black haired Québécoise let me be your beau francois,
Ce soir, Tonight, Alright,
Oh what you doin’ way up there, way across la frontiere,
Ce soir, Tonight, Alright.
Yeah, Ce soir, Tonight, Alright.
