LOS ALAMITOS, CA – More than 80 of the swiftest four-legged athletes will scamper to Los Alamitos Race Course for the 14th Annual Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals on Saturday, July 18. Wienerschnitzel, the world’s largest hot dog chain, is sponsoring the race, a 50-yard dachshund sprint to the finish line. The annual dachshund event is the most highly-attended evening each year at the Los Alamitos Race Course.
After an extensive selection process, 87 dachshunds, equal to the largest number of participants in race history, have been selected to compete in this year’s Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals. The event begins with the first pre-trial heat at 6:15 pm. The Wiener Nationals features all the excitement of a Quarter Horse race. A total of 11 trial heats will be contested at 50 yards. The winner from each trial will advance to the championship race to be held at 9:30 pm.
The winning pooch of the final race will be crowned the 2009 Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals Champion and collect $1,000 for his or her owner.
Proceeds from the event benefits the Seal Beach Animal Care Center, a non-profit group dedicated to finding homes for stray animals in the Orange County area.
Admission to the Los Alamitos Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals is included with a $3 general admission ticket to Los Alamitos Race Course. Attendees 17 years and under enter free.
The Los Alamitos Race Course is located on Katella Avenue, one-and-a-half miles east of the 605 Freeway at 4961 Katella Avenue in Los Alamitos, CA. There is no charge for general parking.
